Evansville Thunderbolts
-
Who are we? We are a competitive homeschool basketball team for students in the city of Evansville, IN, and the surrounding area.
-
Whom do we serve? All homeschooled boys from 10-18.
-
How long have you been doing this? The 2021-2022 season will be our eighth season.
-
Whom do we play? Other homeschool teams and some Christian/Private schools.
-
Where do we practice? Practice is at St. James West UMC on Tuesday and Thursday. Practices start in September and end in late February or early March.
-
How many games would my child play? For 16U Boys approx. 20 games + post-season tournaments. 14U Boys approx. 20 games + post-season tournaments.
-
How far will my child be traveling for road games? We generally travel within a hour and a half for a road game. If we travel two hours, we try to schedule two games. Most of the time, we carpool to cut down on travel expenses.
-
Why do you travel so far for games? As a Homeschool based team, we strive to compete against fellow Homeschool organizations. Unfortunately, many of the homeschool teams available to compete against are sometimes a farther driving distance. We believe that the quality of competition, both from a competitive and experience standpoint, make the drive worth it.
-
Why are we called Thunderbolts? Intended as a double entendre of both Boanerges (Mark 3:17) and the fact that historically, the P-47 Thunderbolt was partly manufactured in Evansville during WWII.
